OVERVIEW:

Each year Adventure WV runs summer Orientation Trips (AWOT) for over 1,000 incoming freshman students to develop strong friendships, adventure around the state, learn about WVU, and engage in relevant discussions about their transition to college. AWOT Trip Leaders and Logistics Specialists are the backbone of these programs; facilitating positive and transformative experiences.

Each year we invite 20-40 new staff to join our Leadership Training Program and Summer Leadership Team- we are proud of our small, dedicated, and outstanding community of student staff members. POSITIONS AVAILABLE:

  • AWOT Logistics Specialists work on campus managing the organizational components of AWOT trips and supporting students and staff in various ways.
  • AWOT Trip Leaders work on and off campus facilitating activities such as: rock climbing, backpacking, whitewater rafting, Habitat for Humanity service, and much more.  Click HERE to see descriptions of different trip models that leaders may be assigned to lead. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • You to do not need to have participated in the AWOT program to apply!
  • You do not need extensive outdoor experience to apply!
  • We are seek ing individuals of diverse experiences and backgrounds with sound decision making abilities and exemplary teaching and leadership skills. We will provide the necessary leadership and technical training for you to be an outstanding AWOT Staff member through our Spring 3-credit leader training course.

 

COMMITMENTS:

  • The training process and work commitments for AWOT are extensive. Applicants must be available to commit to all requirements.
  • Accommodations may be possible for RA’s and other on-campus commitments on a case-by-case basis.
  • Participation in SOAR or New Zealand Programs may limit or prohibit your ability to work for AWOT.

 

PAY:

  • AWOT Trip leaders will lead 4-5 trips. Each trip is approximately 5-7 days long. Most staff work a week-on, week-off schedule. Payment is a base daily stipend of $75 (This stipend increases with years of service with Adventure WV, advanced certifications, and other factors).
  • AWOT Logistics specialists will work 20-37.5 hours per week. Payment is hourly with a base rate of $8.75 per hour.

  • GROUP INTERVIEWS: Applicants will be accepted for Group Interviews based on the quality of their online application. Invited Candidates may participate in Group interviews either Monday, October 10th 7-9pm or Tuesday, October 11th 7-9pm (you will be asked to select which date works best for you on the online application. Your preferred group interview date is not official until you receive an invitation from Adventure WV after applications close on Oct 5th).
  • INDIVIDUAL INTERVIEWS: Applicants will be selected for individual interviews based on the quality of their online application and group interview.
