WVU’s Adventure Orientation Trips are optional peer-led, 5 or 6 day long, adventure-based trips that prepare incoming WVU students for life at WVU and in WV. Trips offer participants diverse experiences and opportunities to learn about themselves, classmates, WVU and West Virginia.

Trip Basics

  • All trips are $95. The university is subsidizing all trips.
  • Student who are Pell Grant eligible will pay $0
  • Fulfills GEF area 4 (graduation requirement, when Fall course is completed) *Mountaineer Quest is not for academic credit.
  • Most trips are between 10 and 22 students; Mountaineer Quest accommodates larger groups of up to 50 students
  • All trips are 5 or 6 days long
  • Trips are led by upperclassman student leaders

RPTR 140

Recreation, Parks and Tourism Resources 140 (RPTR 140) is the academic class associated with your Orientation Trip*.  This class meets the General Education Foundation - Area 4 graduation requirement and is worth  3 academic credits. *All Orientation Trip models except Mountaineer Quest are worth academic credit.
